Join us for our week-long Virtual Professional Development Institute around the theme of Experience the Best of the Summit—a selection of the most highly rated, impactful sessions designed to advance your skills in Graduate Enrollment Management. Schedule:
This session will summarize how a graduate recruitment team with limited knowledge and expertise in the areas of financial aid and scholarships used an online survey to inform the development of a comprehensive Finance & Funding Webinar highlighting the various funding options used by current students and available to prospective graduate students. Initially developed as a virtual presentation for newly admitted students, the webinar is now offered monthly, its content has been transformed into an online Finance & Funding Guide, and it often serves as the first point of contact for prospective students interested in our graduate programs. By providing up-front, straightforward answers to finance and funding questions and gathering related resources into one place, we’re demystifying the finance and funding process and empowering prospective students with the answers they need to confidently pursue their academic goals.
Join us for an insightful panel discussion featuring current doctoral students and recent graduates who will share their diverse experiences in pursuing a doctoral degree while working in higher education. This session will delve into why’s, where’s, and when’s, offering candid reflections on the challenges and triumphs encountered along the way. Panelists will discuss the personal and professional outcomes of earning their degrees, gathering support from leadership, and providing valuable perspectives on how a doctorate has shaped their careers and lives. Further, they will discuss specifics of how they landed on their program, school, and the decision between a PhD and EdD, Whether you’re considering a doctoral program or are already on the path, this session will offer practical advice, inspiration, and a realistic look at what it takes to succeed in higher education.
This presentation examines how academic institutions can safeguard the physical, mental, and financial well-being of students throughout their educational journey, from recruitment to graduation. Graduate students face distinct challenges compared to undergraduates due to a broader age range and varied life circumstances, such as balancing family commitments or re-entering academia after time in the workforce. International graduate students also encounter additional hurdles, such as navigating visa regulations and adjusting to cultural differences, which can affect their academic and personal well-being. With rising concerns about student mental health, financial insecurity, and campus safety, it is essential to create robust support systems to prevent students from "slipping through the cracks." This session will focus on strategies we developed for providing holistic support through student services, identifying early warning signs of distress, and fostering cross-departmental collaboration to ensure students' success.
In this session, we will share different strategies to provide online graduate students with student engagement activities. These events/strategies will range from recruitment through graduation. A few examples include interactive webinars to discuss the different academic tracks and sessions to explore individual courses to connect with the faculty teaching the course. Additionally, sessions regarding working on research that meets the needs of the student’s academic journey in the program to present to the student body or conferences, etc. Lastly, provide and connect students with practicum opportunities both remote and onsite for hands-on-experiences.
Social media is undoubtedly one of the most important marketing tools in this digital age and has caused the higher education market to become saturated, creating increased competition for higher education recruitment. Top universities are utilizing social media as a means to market themselves globally by posting consistent, relatable, and emotional content (Maresova, Hruska, Kuca, 2020). To fill our need to create such content to build up our social media presence, while also learning from our best teachers (our students) on what content works best, we created the Social Media Ambassador Scholarship (SMASch) program. In addition, this project focused on highlighting diversity, and prioritizing ambassadors who represent a wide range of students and underrepresented groups. This session will cover the design, context, and outcomes related to the launch of this new project to help provide more engaging programmatic insights and perspectives as a recruitment and marketing strategy.
