NAGAP Mentor Program

The NAGAP Mentor Program is a member benefit for early career and more experienced GEM professionals to enhance their professional knowledge, skills, and success in the field.

The purpose of the Mentor Program is to provide opportunities for NAGAP members to develop deeper relationships with colleagues, share best practices, and increase engagement with NAGAP and the GEM profession.

Goals

  1. Strengthen mentee’s skills by identifying and addressing areas for growth or improvement
  2. Enhance mentors’ professional abilities through guiding, coaching, and sharing experience
  3. Foster collegial relationships between seasoned and early-career GEM professionals

Timeline and process

A call for mentor and mentee participation was sent in November 2024. Participant applications are due February 14, 2025. Matches are made by geography, role, discipline, and context, followed by an orientation in early fall.

Mentor Program Timeline:

Monday, February 17, 2025 – Forms due
Friday, February 21, 2025 – Matches complete & emails sent
Wednesday, February 26, 2025 – Virtual orientation

  1. Meet in March/April 2025 (GEM Summit)
  2. Meet in July/August 2025
  3. Meet in September/October 2025
  4. Meet in November/December 2025
  5. Closing session in December 2025

Key Roles and Expectations

NAGAP provides a framework for mentors and mentees to engage in productive, meaningful conversations throughout the year.

  • MENTORS offer time, commitment, experience, and wisdom to early-career GEM professionals.
  • MENTEES commit to growth by engaging fully with mentor guidance.

Expectations:

  1. Meet at least four times per year (twice each semester)
  2. Commit to a full academic year
  3. Use provided conversation prompts
  4. Meet in person at GEM Summit when possible
  5. Complete end-of-program evaluation
